ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the effect of distance education on the level of educational achievement of children during the Corona period in ten primary schools in the Emirate of Dubai. To achieve the objectives of the study the researchers adopted the descriptive analytical approach. The quantitative method of data collection had been applied using the electronic questionnaire tool consisted of four main axes for data collection and had been distributed to the study sample consisted of 190 students' parents and administrators selected by using simple random techniques. The results of the study indicated that the participation of students in the educational process, and in the establishment of appropriate educational programs and applications for the transmission to distance learning have contributed to reducing the negative effects of the process of shifting from traditional education / face-to-face education classroom teaching to virtual classroom (ZOOM).The study recommended the need for strengthening distance education mechanisms, which contribute in developing the student's interests, tendencies, attitudes, concentrating on the study material, and using of safe and secured electronic devices to increase the search for additional information to reach the correct knowledge. Also, the school administration should have good e-learning plan ahead with required financial credits that will help in overcoming the crisis and mange distance learning processes to reach future objectives successfully. © 2022 Owner/Author.

ABSTRACT

The study aims to evaluate the impact of the experience of using cloud computing on the development of accounting education in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in light of the Corona pandemic. To achieve this goal, the researchers relied on reviewing previous literature and conducting interviews with a number of accounting professors and students in universities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in order to develop a proposed framework for developing accounting education programs using both traditional education and cloud-based education. During the Corona pandemic, educational institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries relied on the interactive learning management system such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Modal. to support the e-learning process, because these systems enable them to interact with their students and meet their needs, which made studying easier. These systems help Students acquire the skill of self-learning, organizing and managing time. In addition, improving the efficiency of the lecturer in managing his time, due to the decrease in the weekly time needed for lecture and preparation, and helping to social distance between students and the lecturer. On the other hand, students suffered from not accepting e-learning due to the difficulty of understanding lectures, and the lack of skills and experience of some professors and students in the field of e-learning due to the familiarity with traditional education. In addition, the professors suffered from the difficulty of evaluating students under this system. Through personal interviews with a number of accounting professors and students in universities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the researchers found that the previous obstacles were at a great level at the beginning of the application of e-learning through cloud computing applications, but the level of these obstacles has decreased over time as professors and students gradually acquired teaching skills at the same time, many technical problems were solved. Despite some advantages achieved through the transition to accounting education based on cloud computing, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries decided to return completely to traditional education. Therefore, the GCC countries should draw on the advantages that have been achieved from e-learning with a return to traditional education and study the possibility of adopting hybrid accounting education. Therefore, the researchers tried to propose a framework for the development of hybrid accounting education programs, based on several basic components that represent the elements of the educational process represented in the material and technological capabilities, the preparation and preparation of human elements (professor, student, technicians and administrators) and the teaching process (commitment to international accounting education standards, the development of accounting curricula and educational aids, And the use of different teaching styles, and the development of methods of evaluating students). © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

ABSTRACT

This article deals with the change in the perception of public spaces due to the Corona pandemic. The focus is on the conversion of urban spaces through the construction of outdoor bar areas, a current and so far neglected issue from a scientific perspective. Against the background of the conceptual embedding of the concepts of public space and curb side dining areas (or synonymously: "Schanigärten”), the dealing with the latter in the study area of Munich is explained. In the context of the current situation in Munich, the influence of curb side dining areas on the perception of public space is first analysed by means of an explorative survey. The result of a conjoint analysis shows, among other things, a positive correlation between the presence of curb side dining areas and the perception of respective computer-simulated street scenes (with all possible combinations of the presence or absence of curb side dining areas, trees and parking spaces). In addition, a regression analysis is used to analyse the extent to which individual socio-demographic aspects (e.g., age, gender) and aspects of attitude (e.g., toward the conversion of urban parking lots) and behaviour (car use) influence perception. In a further step, specific street scenes are assessed using recent photographs from Munich in order to measure different aspects of perception as well. The evaluation of a semantic differential shows that street sections with "Schanigärten” are consistently perceived more positively (e.g. more interesting, safer, more inviting) than those without. Finally, and in the light of the Corona pandemic, the development of the "Schanigärten” in Munich is explained from an expert's perspective, before the article concludes with a summary and an outlook. © 2022 Austrian Geographical Society. ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to investigate the impact of the Corona pandemic on the performance of Islamic banks in Jordan. The researcher adopted a descriptive analytical approach. This study is a case study on the financial indicators of the Jordan Islamic Bank for the years 2017-2021. As the years 2020-2021 are which the Corona pandemic affected Islamic banks, so these years were chosen in addition to the years 2017-2019 to get a clear idea of the difference between the two periods. The study found that financial indicators and values contained in the Balance Sheet were not significantly affected during the Corona pandemic. The study reported that Net Change In Cash & Cash Equivalents decreased during the year 2020. The study concludes that Islamic banks were not significantly affected during the Corona pandemic, especially as they follow financing formulas that differ from commercial banks. The results of this study have an important implication for the decision makers in Islamic banks, contributing to their guidance about the impact of global crises on the performance of Islamic banks in general. The study recommends conducting more studies on the impact of the Corona pandemic on the performance of Islamic banks. © 2023, Success Culture Press. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Care for family carers of people with dementia in municipal communities during the pandemic: A Qualitative Study Abstract. Background: The availability of support services for family carers of persons with dementia in the municipal community shows deficits due to the Corona pandemic and thus entails a change in the support of carers. Research question: The questions arise, what changes in the care of family carers of people with dementia do those affected perceive, how do actors from the municipal community experience the care situation during the pandemic and to what extent do the perceptions of the groups coincide or differ. Method: The database consists of town hall talks and focus groups from 13 municipal communities in Germany. Participants were family carers and actors from the municipal community. For data analysis, a qualitative content analysis was carried out. Result: Negative changes in the care of caregivers can be seen, for example, in the omission of care services or groups of relatives. Above all, actors perceived positive changes, such as advancing digitalization or increased neighborly help. The perception of changes in the care situation differs in several subcategories between carers and actors. Conclusion: Although large gaps in care have been created by the pandemic, emerging challenges also create new ways for support such as digital groups for family carers. In the future, opportunities need to be created to implement already developed interventions in such a way that the target group can make use of them.

ABSTRACT

We examine changes in the well-being of family caregivers during the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany, using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) and the SOEP-CoV study. The COVID-19 pandemic posed an extraordinary challenge for family caregivers, as care recipients are a high-risk group requiring special protection, and professional care services were severely cut back. The specific situation of the COVID-19 pandemic allows us to re-examine the caregiver stress process model. Using first difference regression models, we analyse changes in general life satisfaction and depressive symptoms (PHQ-4 score) among family caregivers between 2019 and spring 2020, differentiating by care intensity and duration of the care episode. Caregivers show similar changes in well-being as non-caregivers: a simultaneous increase in depressive symptoms and life satisfaction between 2019 and 2020. However, our results reveal heterogeneity within the group of family caregivers as we find differences according to caregiving dynamics and intensity. Among the group of continuing caregivers, high-intensity caregivers experience a larger increase in life satisfaction, and low-intensity caregivers a smaller increase in life satisfaction, compared to non-caregivers. Our results therefore provide some support for the role enhancement hypothesis for continuing caregivers with high time commitment.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: During the COVID-19-pandemic a significant decrease of up to 13% of all kinds of medical emergencies was reported. Similar trends were expected for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhages (aSAH) and/or symptomatic aneurysms. Research question: To analyze a correlation of the SARS-CoV2-infection and the incidence of aSAH, and to assess the impact of the pandemic-lockdown on the incidence, the outcome and the course of patients suffering from aSAH and/or aneurysms. Material and methods: From March 16th, 2020 (first lockdown in Germany) to January 31st, 2021, all patients admitted to our hospital were screened by polymerase-chain-reaction (PCR) test for genetic material of SARS-CoV2. During this period, aSAH and symptomatic cerebral aneurysms were assessed and retrospectively compared to a historic longitudinal case-cohort. Results: Of 109.927 PCR-tests, 7.856 (7.15%) revealed a SARS-CoV2-infection. None of the patients mentioned above were tested positively. The number of aSAH and symptomatic aneurysms rose by 20.5% (39 vs. 47 cases) (p â€‹= â€‹0.93). Poor grade aSAH, as well as extensive bleeding-patterns were more often observed (p â€‹= â€‹0.63 and p â€‹= â€‹0.40, respectively), with more symptomatic vasospasms diagnosed (5 vs. 9 patients). Mortality rate increased by 8,4%. Discussion and conclusion: A correlation between SARS-CoV2-infection and the incidence of aSAH could not be established. Still, the overall number and the number of poor-grade aSAHs increased as well as symptomatic aneurysms during the pandemic. Therefore, we might conclude that dedicated neurovascular competence should be retained in designated centers to care for these patients even or especially in special situations affecting the global healthcare system.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Due to the corona pandemic, face-to-face teaching was no longer permitted in the summer semester 2020 and online alternatives were quickly found. OBJECTIVE: In our article, we illustrate the switch from face-to-face to online teaching in ophthalmology at the University of Lübeck and compare online teaching with face-to-face teaching. METHODS: The central teaching evaluation takes place every semester with a standardized questionnaire. Based on the evaluation of these questions, a direct comparison of the attendance semester of the winter semester 2019/2020 with the online semester of the summer semester 2020 was carried out. RESULTS: The structure (p = 0.003), the organization (p = 0.001), the resources made available (p = 0.034), the attendance of the lectures (p < 0.001) and further dates (p = 0.041), the increase in interest (p = 0.039) and learning (p = 0.001) were rated better in the online semester than in the face-to-face semester. Overall, the digital summer semester 2020 (p < 0.01) received a significantly better overall grade than the face-to-face semester in winter 2019/2020. CONCLUSION: The structure of our courses has also been proven online. The theoretical content could be excellently mediated; however, practical exercises are not possible online. For the learning of practical skills, face-to-face instruction is still necessary.

ABSTRACT

Background: The starting point of the study is the high psychosocial distress of healthcare professionals and the low utilization of a counselling and support service specifically developed for employees of a university hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: The present study examines the degree of psychosocial distress experienced as well as knowledge, utilization, and evaluation of in-house psychosocial care structures based on a large sample of healthcare professionals (n = 859) at a university hospital.Material and methods:Within the framework of an online survey (21 July 2021-19 October 2021), the subjectively perceived stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, depressive symptoms (PHQ-8) of the healthcare professionals as well as knowledge, utilization, and evaluation of possible care services offered by the university hospital were collected. In addition, qualitative data were collected on the source of knowledge, the provision of information and the type of contact with the in-house care structures. Results: Despite high psychosocial distress and predominant knowledge about the existence of in-house psychosocial care services, the utilization of these services is low among healthcare professionals. In particular, contact with patients was a risk factor for the psychosocial distress. The qualitative analysis shows that employees would prefer to be informed via email and newsletter and that they miss a clear presentation of care structures. Conclusion: A revision of the presentation of offers and contact channels according to the wishes of the staff could improve the acceptance of in-house services.

ABSTRACT

The contact restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic influence social relationships in families and at work. Drawing on Granovetter's network theory, the changes of strong and weak ties in different life spheres of middle-class families and their importance for coping with the crisis are analyzed. The article builds on intergenerational qualitative longitudinal data that was collected in a project on status maintenance of middle-class families that conducted narrative family interviews with three generations between August 2018 and August 2021. In general, strong ties to close family members and friends continued during the pandemic through modified interaction practices and even intensified. They provided reciprocal and emotional social support, which was needed to cope with changing social conditions and uncertainties. Restrictions were experienced by the oldest generation or when intrafamilial dependencies were reactivated. Regarding weak ties, distinctions must be made between different spheres and ties. Ties to more distant relatives and friends became looser or were cut, while neighborhoods gained significance. Central work and business ties to colleagues and customers were transformed and thus maintained, while more casual work relationships like professional networks were reduced or cut. Inequality effects can be observed to the detriment of women and the youngest generation. © 2023 Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft mbH und Co. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Global health crises such as the Corona pandemic are and elusive situations that trigger uncertainty for people, and at the same time bring concrete and directly tangible consequences and effects on them. In the current context of media, characterised by an almost uncontrollable number of active users, such situations provide a fertile space for the dissemination of an untamed mass of news, in which, in addition to truthful and relevant information, disinformation is also disseminated, often proving to be a breeding ground for stigmatising and conspiratorial content. Based on a survey of the most widespread social media, this article aims to analyse the conspiratorial elements present in Covid-19 communication in Germany and Italy, specifically surveying the presence of the recurrent anti-Semitic traits that seem to characterise conspiracy theories. © 2022 Gesellschaft fuer deutsche Sprache e.V.. ABSTRACT

This study aims to identify the consequences of lockdowns due to the coronavirus on female academics in Jordan. An online survey was distributed via social media and filled in by 131 female participants from different academic ranks in public and private universities. The study investigated four main variables: the consequences of lockdown on the social aspect, psychological aspect, and economic aspect, and also on how time was spent during the lockdown, and the correlation between these variables and other social and personal factors (such as the marital status, etc.). It was found that female academics are significantly affected on both levels: the economic aspect and the activities spent during the lockdown, followed by the psychological and social aspects. The results show that marital status played a significant role, as single female academics are generally affected more than married ones. Economically, it is found that the sector in which the participant works in has a significant impact. Female academics working in the private sector are affected more than those working in the public sector. In addition, the academic degree the participant holds plays a key role. Academics with master's degrees are affected economically and psychologically, and even in terms of spending time during the lockdown. © 2022 DSR Publishers/ The University of Jordan.

ABSTRACT

This paper in the journal "Gruppe. Interaktion. Organisation. (GIO)" discusses the impact of uncertainty and new operational space on the role and identity construction of employees. Uncertainty has not only been one of the central challenges in terms of the development of working conditions and organizations since the emergence of the Corona pandemic. Digitization and virtualization, knowledge work and project organization are trends in the world of work that raise questions about how social identity and role behavior develop in temporary organizations under the influence of uncertainty. For this purpose, this article examines the relationship between temporary spatial representation and identity as well as new roles in temporary organizations, with special attention to project structures. It becomes clear due to that the spatial repositioning of the temporary organization and the associated change in the employee roles employography as an approach to identity work based on one's own employment biography is becoming increasingly important.
